This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
