Sweden Selection Reveal: Alexander Isak Selected Whereas Gyokeres Omitted
Viktor Gyokeres moved to the Gunners from Sporting Lisbon during the offseason
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from the new manager's maiden Swedish national team selection, whereas Liverpool forward Alexander Isak received inclusion
The Arsenal forward is due for additional assessments this week following concerns he suffered a muscle problem during Arsenal's Premier League win against the Clarets on Saturday
Gyokeres was absent from Arsenal' Champions League victory against Slavia Prague earlier this week
Isak Returns
Isak, absent from action from 22 October due to a groin injury, was selected for the World Cup matches against Switzerland (November 15th) plus the Slovenian side (November 18th)
Additional Premier League Call-ups
- Tottenham playmaker the young talent, currently rehabilitating from a head injury
- Newcastle winger the Swedish international
These players were included in the Premier League contingent named under ex- Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager Graham Potter
The New Manager's Appointment
The English manager took over by Sweden originally temporarily in late October, under four weeks after he was dismissed from West Ham
Previous boss the Danish coach was fired after Sweden's setback against the Kosovan team on 13 October, an outcome that made straight qualification from their World Cup group unattainable
Present Standing
The Swedish team are currently last place of Group B with just one point from their opening four games
Should they fail to secure second place, they may yet participate in the World Cup play-offs as a result of their results during the previous UEFA competition
